Anti-spam Bill: Is Your Business Compliant?

Bill C-28, which aims to put a term to spam, is scheduled to be in force in 2012, with fines of up to $1 million for individuals and $10 million for businesses (that’s right: $10 million!). Yet there’s a world of difference between spam and email marketing, and businesses that fail to differentiate the two may already be paying a high price in lost opportunities! In January 2010, a multiplemedia Barometer survey showed that Québec businesses largely underuse mass emails despite extremely favourable cost-effectiveness – i.e. an average ROI of $43.62 per dollar. It boils down to this: How can your business harness the potential of new technologies without running afoul of the law?
